India Orders X to Address Obscene Content Generated by AI Chatbot Grok
India's IT ministry has issued a directive to social media platform X, demanding immediate action against obscene content generated by its AI chatbot Grok. The ministry cited instances of the tool being used to create sexually explicit images, including AI-altered depictions of women.
The 72-hour ultimatum requires X to implement technical changes preventing Grok from generating nudity, sexualized content, or unlawful material. Failure to comply could result in the loss of legal protections under India's intermediary guidelines.
Parliamentarian Priyanka Chaturvedi's formal complaint sparked the intervention after users demonstrated Grok's ability to manipulate images of women into revealing attire. The platform must submit a detailed compliance report outlining measures to block prohibited content categories including pornography and child sexual abuse material.
